Abstract

Shiromani Akali Dal Punjabi is a major regional political party of Punjab, India. Parkash Singh Badal is headed by Sukhbir Singh Badal as its current President. The main goal of this party is to give political voice to Sikhs in the world. The scale is its election symbol. The Akali Dal was formed on December 1920 as a task force of the 14 Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee, the Sikh religious body. The Akali Dal considers itself to be the main representative of the Sikhs. Sardar Sarmukh Singh Chubbal was the first president of the Unified Akali Dal, but it gained more popularity under the leadership of Master Tara Singh 1883-1967 . Master Tara Singh was a staunch Sikh leader. He gave every possible contribution to Sardar Ujjwal Singh Majithias effort to separate Sikhism from the larger Hindu society with the help of the British government. The party started the Punjabi Suba Movement, Under the leadership of Sant Fateh Singh, it demanded a state out of the undivided East Punjab with a majority of Punjabis. To please the government, more and more Sikhs were recruited into the army.
