Abstract
This article focuses on addressing the contextualization of Persons with Disabilities (PCD). The historical-social and legal contexts of the disabled will be presented from a broad analysis from a scientific, cultural, and medical point of view - permeating social movements, representation initiatives in organizations and the creation of specific legislation that deals with the social rights of the person with disabilities, including in Brazil. It is noteworthy that since the beginning of humanity, the origin of man and the distinctions between races, creeds and civilizations were part of the construction and formation of the social base, from the distinctions between men and women, rich and poor, strong, and weak.
