Abstract
The implementation of the research carried out from the results of observations and interviews with classroom teachers found that problems occurred in class II SDN 1 Landungsari, where there were still students whose reading skills were not fluent at first. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of early reading skills by using the SAS method with letter card media. This study uses the method of classroom action research (CAR) by Kemmis and McTaggart. The approach in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques in this study used the methods of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that the use of the SAS method with letter card media could improve the initial reading skills of class II students, namely the results of the assessment in cycle I showed that the percentage of obtaining completeness only reached 76.87% for learning outcomes, and then in cycle II, there was an increase in student learning outcomes to 95.05%. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of the SAS method with the help of letter card media has been successful in improving students' initial reading skills.
