Abstract
Identifying the features of the history of regional archival aff airs is an urgent task. Therefore, the aim of the article was to present the process of formation and evolution of archival culture of Katerynoslav of the XIX – early XX centuries in the context of the genesis of regional historical culture and the formation of the urban spiritual and cultural landscape. The research methodology is based on ideas about the historical culture of society as a space of production, consumption, translation and preservation of knowledge/ideas about the past in a particular cultural space. An integral segment of the historical culture of society is its archival culture, which is perceived not only as a set of professional and social practices, but also as an area of the ideal – projects, programs, plans, dreams, which may be referred to as «archival horizons». The scientifi c novelty of the study is determined by the fact that historical and archival stories set in the context of historical urbanism, intellectual and new social history, broad and extensive fi eld of memory studies, regional historiography and historical culture can acquire completely new sounds and meanings. It is important here to study the ideal segment of archival culture, which is proposed to defi ne the concept of «archival horizons». Under this term for the XIX – early XX centuries can be understood as a set of knowledge and public ideas about the role, place, value and opportunities for the use of manuscript heritage in the scientifi c, social and spiritual-cultural space. Prospects for further study of «archival horizons» and «archival dreams» as segments of archival and historical culture of society are associated with the involvement of the history of archival aff airs in close interdisciplinary cooperation. The result of the study was the identifi cation of three periods in the evolution of Katerynoslav archival culture, determining their content and features.
