Among the basic issues that need to be considered in the context of overall national development, the issue of women empowerment is probably paramount. Although various efforts have been made in the direction of improving the status of women in post independence India, especially after the 73rd Constitutional Amendment, 1993, but there is still a need for the state and society to intensify their efforts in this direction.
