Abstract
Firstly, symbolism has international codes. Its wonderfulness and beauty dribbles from the diversity of human beings understanding and analysis according to environment and culture. This study believes that the connotation of symbolism in The Old Man and the Sea is essential for sketches the real meaning of life through fictional depiction. The intensive quest for symbolism's notions in the novella results in, firstly, how can ordinary people overcome of their obstacles in life depending on available capabilities. Secondly, multiplicity and explicitly of symbolism in The Old Man and the Sea modifies it to be one of the universal novels. Finally, symbolism enhances literature writing.
