Abstract
Growing plants can be tricky and needs proper maintenance in order to grow healthily, one of the factors that affect a plant's growth and quality is the soil's pH level. Plants require a certain level of pH in their soil otherwise it won't benefit them as much and could possibly kill the plant. With the use of Lacatan Banana (Musa acuminata) peels extract, as it most commonly found in the Philippines, it offers a cheap and easy alternative as a pH level neutralizer for acidic soil. To test and prove the effectiveness of the said product, an experiment was conducted with three setups (Controlled and Experimental) in a clean environment with proper equipment used. The Banana peels were heat-exposed and squeezed to obtain the extract. Red rose petals were then boiled to be used as the pH level Indicator. After performing the said experiment, the results showed a substantial change in the soil's pH level. A picture of a pH level color scale was used as a basis in determining the soil's pH level. The experimental group's soil pH level increased around the neutral scale, proving the main goal of the study. The said results showed and proved the effectiveness of Lacatan Banana (Musa acuminata) peels extract as a pH level neutralizer for acidic soil. With this conclusion, the study will efficiently help farmers and gardeners on neutralizing pH level of soils, providing a healthy environment for their plants.
