Abstract
The present paper attempts to assess the regional performance of 75 coal fired public sector thermal power plants in India for the period 2014-15 to 2017-18 using data envelope analysis (DEA) with a single output and five inputs. The mean technical efficiency of the DMUs varied from 66.1% to over 90%. The technical efficiency of Central Government operated power plants far exceeded compared to those plants operated by the respective State governments. The region-wise efficiency measurement shows that Southern region performed better than other regions.
