Initial abbreviations in the English language

The article is devoted to the study of one type of shortening identified as initialisms. In the latter the following features have been revealed: to acquire plural and possessive, to create new words and to perform different syntactical functions. These characteristics allow to consider such initials to be a part of the language system.
