Abstract
In old age, the reduction in muscle strength occurs faster than the reduction in muscle mass, which are hallmarks of sarcopenia, that is, a progressive reduction in strength and muscle mass. One of the strategies to mitigate these losses, in elderly, there is resistance training (RT) as an alternative, and association with creatine supplementation has been used. The effects of creatine supplementation in intermittent activities, such as sports, especially in strength and resistance training, are well described, but with divergent results regarding the mechanism of benefit. The search was restricted to articles published between 2012 and 2022, in all languages available in Pubmed, Science Direct, Cochrane Library, Scielo and LILACS databases. It was found that creatine supplementation in elderly people increases strength and muscle mass gain, resulting in a better quality of muscle function, and consequently of life, for the public studied.
