Abstract

Strength to weight ratio is one of the oldest questions pondered over by humans ever since the Palaeolithic age. From stone chips of neanderthals to modern-day high entropy nanoscale oxide dispersion strengthened alloys, quest for these physical attributes has been over numerous vicissitudes of research galvanized by envisaging of many. Such new materials and their processing techniques demand a better understanding of any circumspection before implementing them in design and is an essential step for any engineer. The discovery of such material often fuel's a plethora of studies claiming them to be the quintessential step towards the ultimate solution. Observations with such claims usually use tendentious experimental data justifying the vox populi. A similar investigative inclination is distinctly visible in the case of Metal Matrix Composites (MMC). Principally for aluminum-silicon carbide metal matrices and application of non-feed welding methods like friction stir welding (FSW) as an optimal fusing practice for such composites. The current paper is part of an effort to understand the parametric distribution of material properties and their effect on the joint strength of the weld
