Archival Documents as a Source for Scientific Research in the Field of the Ukrainians’ National Memory Restoration: on the History of the Partisan Resistance Movement in the Crimea during World War II

Abstract

The purpose of the work is to introduce documents from the Central State Archives of Public Organizations of Ukraine fonds on the partisan resistance movement in Crimea during the World War II into scientifi c circulation. Methodology: general scientifi c, interdisciplinary and special research methods were combined. It allowed to determine the state of the source base with its species composition and information content, to fi nd out its place in the corpus of available documentary sources. Statistical analysis supplemented by qualitative analysis of the content of documents became an additional method in the study of mass sources. The application of the comparative-historical method during the processing of documents from various fonds made it possible to trace the movement of documented information and draw conclusions about the informativeness of the source complex on the studied problem in general. Scientifi c novelty: documents on the partisan resistance movement in the Crimea during the World War ІІ from the Central State Archives of Public Organizations of Ukraine fonds are for the fi rst time considered as a source of scientifi c research in the fi eld of restoring the national memory of the Ukrainian people and comprehensively introduced into scientifi c circulation. Prospects for further studies: this study can be the basis for historical and regional scientifi c research in the fi eld of restoring national memory, in particular, on the history of the World War ІІ in general and on determining the role of Ukraine in the organization of the anti-Hitler struggle in the occupied Crimea in particular. Conclusions: The documents of the Central State Archives of Public Organizations of Ukraine on the partisan resistance movement in Crimea during the World War II as part of the National Archival Holdings are an important source of scientifi c research in the fi eld of restoring the national memory of the Ukrainian people. Today, this is almost the only available documentary complex for the study by Ukrainian and foreign scholars of the partisan resistance movement issues in the Crimea in 1941–1944, in particular, regarding the determination of Ukraine's role in the organization of the anti-Hitler struggle on the territory of occupied peninsula.
