Abstract

The study wanted to determine the correlation between teaching competencies of the catechists and the spiritual life of students of Cabittaogan National High School, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. To support the study, theories were proposed concerning teaching competencies, doctrines, prayer, Holy Eucharist, and students' understanding. To enhance these theories, literature and studies were reviewed. The population of the study was all Grade IX and Grade X students of Cabittaogan National High School. To gather the data, validated questionnaires were used. The data were interpreted using statistical tools such as Weighted Mean and Pearson r Product Moment of Correlation. The study found that teaching competencies of the catechist were high (competent) and the level of students‟ understanding was high and their participation was also found high. The study found that there is a correlation between teaching competencies and the level of understanding of students, participation and their spiritual life. Therefore, the hypothesis of the study is rejected.
