Social Communication through Hashtag (#) During the Covid-19 Pandemic in Indonesia

Abstract
Aim of the study was toexplain the role of the Hashtag (#) in social media as social communication channels in the Covid-19pandemicin Indonesia. Referring to the concept of social communication by Ruben and Stewart that communication has a function, namelyadapting to eachother'senvironment or social integration, while social media becomes an online medium thatstrengthens the relationshipbetweenindividuals / users as well as social bond (according to Van Dijk). The resultsis, people participatesposting #tetapdirumah, #JagaJarak, #cucitangan on Indonesiasocial media platforms. Peopletook part in implementing all the suggestions but not becausetheywereencouraged by the exposure of the Hashtag (#) on their social media platforms, despitearguingthat the Hashtag (#) on social media that made the issue of Covid-19 a trending, quiteeffectivelyplayed a role in shapingsharedawareness, spread information, and educate the public how to cut off the spread of the Covid-19 virus, soit can beconcludedthat social communication through Hashtag (#) on social media has not been ableto encourage people to adaptand changes in the social environment due to the Covid-19pandemic.
