Abstract
Translation is getting more and more important nowadays, because most of the texts are in foreign language, especially English as an international language which is mostly spoken by the people to communicate all over the world. In the process of translation, translator must discover the meaning of a source language and translate it to the target language which expresses the meaning of the source language in natural way. In translating some sentences types of SL into the TL the translator has the task to discover the meaning (semantic) so that he is able to translate them in natural way, especially in some sentence types which have rhetorical meaning or illocutionary force, which contain other intended meaning. This research is focused on translation in relation to grammatical, semantic structure found in the novels entitled Family Album by Steel (1989) and its translation Album Keluarga by Prajoko (2005), in order to find out the strategy used by the translators in translating the illocutionary force. Based on the analysis, it was found that the different form of translation used by the translator in order to reach the naturalness of translation in the TL dynamic equivalent. Although there is skewing of form from the source language to the target language, however, semantically, the Indonesian translation carries the same meaning or in other words, it does not change the intended meaning of the SL.
