Abstract
As an human alpha herpes vírus, Varicella zoster virus (VZV), causes both varicella and varicella zoster. After a incubation period of approximately 2 weeks, viral replication starts in upper respiratory mucosa and after to skin vesicular rash. Latent infection occurs through viral access to the axons of sensory and ganglion neurons and also by axonal transport. During VZV reactivation period, vesicular eruption appears in neural path dermatome. Reactivation of VZV is most commonly found in immunodepressed patients, although, it can also be found in healthy individuals. Ramsay Hunt syndrome, also named as herpes zoster oticus, is a rare condition that occurs due to (VZV) reactivation in the geniculate ganglion of the facial nerve.and in the vestibulocochlear nerve, causing sensorineural hearing loss and facial paralysis.1, 2, 3, 4, 5 In the present case report an unusual presentation of varicella zoster in an immunocompetent patient is reported.
