SOCIAL PROTECTION SYSTEM OF CITIZENS AND METHODS OF ITS IMPROVEMENT

The national system of social protection includes two main areas: social security and social insurance, which are one of the forms of the system ensuring the social protection of the population and the social stability of the country. The role of social protection of the population is to contribute to the socioeconomic stability of the society at the expense of vital services to the population as an integral part of the system of social protection of the population. The proper organization of a country's social protection system largely determines the stability and dynamics of the nation's economic and social development. Therefore, Ukraine's path to becoming a democratic, legal, and social state is fraught with threats that complicate and prevent citizens from realizing their rights to social protection. The article reveals the essence of social protection of the population in the context of taking into account the transformative and market nature of economic development. It is noted that with transformational processes in the economic system, changes also occur in the social protection system, as one of its components. The important point is to adapt the experience of countries with well-developed market relations to native practice. Therefore, the paper focuses on the characteristics of social protection in developed countries and presents a ranking of general welfare status according to the coefficients of wage replacement by pensions and benefits for temporary disability and unemployment. Ukraine is currently going through a difficult period in terms of social protection of its citizens. The effectiveness of the solution of social issues, which are rapidly deteriorating in society under the contemporary conditions, depends first of all on the general level of the state economy, on the capacity of the material (financial) base, but also on the nature and content of state policy in the field of social protection of the citizens.
