Machine Translation and Post-Editing in the German-Spanish Translation Teaching: The Case of Economic and Financial Text

Abstract

The aim of this paper is to address the impact of the use of CAT tools in professional practice,and specifically,in machine translation (MT), as well as its introduction in university teaching as well as the work resulting. the post-editing. To achieve this goal, we present the didactic experience resulting from the analysis of the translations of an economic and financial text from a German journal, analysis carried out by three different MT engines. This work was carried out within a didactic unit devoted to "Correction and post-editing" that we teach as part of the subject "General B-A Translation: German-Spanish" in the Degree in Translation and Interpreting at the University of Alicante. We worked with first-year students with little experience in translation, who were asked to produce a human translation of the same text in order to compare it with the machine translations mentioned.
