Abstract
Mathematics is closely related to everyone's daily life and lifelong planning. Exclude mathematics from everyday life and civilization grinds to a halt. The purpose of the research was to identify the factors that contribute to students' underachievement in mathematics. Two schools in neighboring Nyandarua Central Sub County were used for the study's pilot phase. Experts in the field of research at Karatina University were shown the research equipment to verify their validity. Pearson's Correlation Coefficient was used to check the consistency of the survey instruments. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS version 20, and the results were shown in frequency tables and percentages. The qualitative information was analyzed using descriptive stories. Poor academic performance in mathematics was shown to be attributable to a number of factors, including classroom practices, students', educators', and parents' dislike of the subject, teachers' and administrators' lack of subject-specific expertise, and a shortage of both qualified educators and appropriate materials.
