Abstract

In recent years, the term "sustainable development" (SD) has become ubiquitous in discussions about improving the world. Although the term of "development" is ubiquitous and has gained huge popularity over the years, many remain confused regarding its meaning, history, and implications for the theory of development and practise. The goal of this study is to add to the discussion of SD by expanding upon previous explanations of the paradigm and the ways in which it affects human thought and behaviour in the pursuit of sustainable development. This is accomplished by carefully reviewing the relevant literature. The study discovers and argues that sustainable growth is really a problem of intergenerational and intragenerational fairness based on three unique but linked pillars: the environment, the economy as a whole, and society. To protect and advance the principles of this model in the name of humanity, managers must ensure responsible behaviour as well as actions on a global, national, community, and personal level and recognise the interdependencies, complementarities, as well as compromises among these tenets. To guarantee that everyone is informed, conscientious, culturally compliant, and contributing to sustainable development, the key stakeholders need to perform a larger job in terms of rules, education, and supervision on economic, social, and ecological management of resources. The (UN), government agencies, businesses, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) all fit under this category.
