Abstract
Water distribution is a critical infrastructure component that provides clean water to urban and rural areas. Inefficient water distribution can lead to significant water loss and wasted resources. In this research paper, we propose the use of artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to optimise water distribution and reduce water loss. We review the current state-of-the-art techniques for optimising water distribution systems and present a case study of a real-world water distribution network to demonstrate the effectiveness of AI-based optimisation. In more recent times, the development of modern water distribution systems can be attributed to advances in technology and engineering. One of the biggest challenges in managing water distribution systems is ensuring that the water supply is reliable and consistent, even during times of high demand or unexpected events such as equipment failures or natural disasters. To achieve this, water distribution systems rely on various algorithms and models to optimise water flow, pressure, and quality. These algorithms are typically based on hydraulic principles, and they take into account factors such as pipe diameter, elevation, and the properties of the water being transported. This is where AI and machine learning can play a role. By analysing large amounts of data from the water distribution system and incorporating real-time sensor data, AI algorithms can improve the accuracy of water distribution models, leading to better management of these critical systems. The results show that AI-based optimisation can significantly reduce water loss in water distribution systems
