Abstract
A total 1700 animal remains of 34 taxa have been established in the Late Antiquity fortified provision depot and settlement (4th – 6th c. AD) near Shipot village (Vidin Region, NW Bulgaria). Some wild mammals as wild boar, european hare, red deer, roe deer, fallow deer, aurochs, and ?wisent, were hunted, as well as red fox, wildcat, grey wolf, and brown bear. Livestock breeding (cattle, sheep, goat, horse, donkey and pig) was the basic source of meat or harnessed animals for the inhabitants. In addition numerous remains of greek and ?hermann's tortoises have been found. Wild birds were represented by the common buzzard, hooded crow, lesser white-fronted goose, and the disappeared black grouse.
