Abstract
Mahtumkulu was a Turkmen thinker and poet who lived in the 18th century. Mahtumkulu is as important and valuable to Turkmens as Cengiz Aytmatov for Kyrgyz, Gaspıralı Ismail for Crimean Tatars, Abdullah Tukay for Kazan Tatars and Abay Kunanbayulı for Kazakhs. The Turkic world has had to struggle with many difficulties due to the geography it has existed throughout history. The most important and difficult of these has been the struggle for identity. The first thing to do in order to destroy or suppress a society is to de-identify it. Deidentified communities are like an sappy tree that can be molded into the desired shape. Language forms the basis of identity. The community that loses its language loses its identity and disappears. Intellectuals of the Turkic world have been also important thinkers and scientists involved in this struggle. In Ahmet Buran's book titled " Sözü Kanatlandıran Şair Mahtumkulu ", he dealt with Mahtumkulu, who struggled for language and identity for Turkmen. In this study, this work will be introduced.
