Abstract

Organizations need employees who are committed, participatory, healthy, efficient and productive in order to survive. This is due to the fact that organizational efficiency is a product of individual performance. Presenteeism and organizational commitment are also issues that need to be evaluated in this context. Organizational commitment is the intense effort of the employees for the goals of the organization by establishing parallelism between the goals of their organization and their own goals. Presenteeism, which is defined as the problem of not being able to be present at work despite being physically at work, significantly reduces individual and organizational productivity and causes financial losses. This study aims to understand the level and perceptions of presenteeism and organizational commitment of public and private sector employees. In this context, a survey covering 415 people working in some public and private sector organizations in the province of Tokat was conducted, and the data obtained by the survey method were analyzed with the SPSS program. In the research; The factors that cause employees to go to work even though they are sick, especially organizational commitment, and the relationship of these factors with demographic variables are discussed. In addition to organizational commitment behavior in displaying presenteeism behavior in the light of the data obtained; Fear of being fired, desire to increase productivity, feeling bad conscientiously, anxiety about job change, realizing a career plan, escaping from family problems were also found to be effective on presenteeism.
