Abstract
The main characteristics of mining development stages depending on the orientation to achieving economic, environmental and social efficiency arc investigated. Features of sustainable development of mining different from environmental and socially responsible type of development are revealed. The necessity of the transition in the mining management to principals of sustainable development is proved.
