Patients' Perspectives and Awareness of Warfarin Treatment at Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein Military Hospital, Jordan

Abstract

Objective: to explore the perspective and awareness of patients who are taken warfarin therapy at Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein Hospital, Jordan. Method: a cross sectional survey of qualitative questionnaire to measure participants perspective and awareness who contact and get education at internal clinic in prince Ali Bin Al Hussein Hospital, the questionnaire consists of two parts, the first part concerning about demographic characteristics of the participants. The second part deal with awareness and knowledge of warfarin treatment. The end result was analyzed and data Excel sheets were performed to use the SSP 20 program. Results: The majority of patients know the reason for taking warfarin and (98(81.66%)) showed that they know the concentration of their warfarin. the mean duration of warfarin treatment was (73(60.83%)) for the group of 5-10years duration. Most of patients had the knowledge about the INR level (102(85%)) and (91(75.83%)) were committed to taking warfarin. Conclusion: The results of this study appeared that patients were educated to a moderate level about warfarin treatment and enhanced knowledge and education is required to increase the adherence and awareness about treatment
