Psychological features of lonely experience in youth

Abstract

The article presents the results of a theoretical analysis and an empirical study of the psychological features of experiencing loneliness in youth. Loneliness is analyzed as a problem of modern youth. Emphasis is placed on the interdisciplinary nature of the scientific study of this problem. It was found that loneliness is a socio-psychological phenomenon, which is characterized by a deep subjective emotional experience associated with the absence of close, positive emotional ties with people and with the fear of losing them as a result of forced social isolation, or isolation that has psychological reasons. The results of the study of the socio-psychological features of experiencing loneliness in youth are presented. On the basis of the conducted empirical study of the level of loneliness among young people, it was found that every third subject experiences a state of loneliness of varying intensity. Diagnostics of the depth of the experience of loneliness among young men revealed that the vast majority of the researched is characterized by a shallow experience of loneliness. In most of the subjects, there are no chronic symptoms and a long-term inability to establish relationships with other people, that is, situational loneliness prevails due to the violation of social relationship patterns. It has been found that there is a wide range of coping strategies for overcoming loneliness, emotion or problem oriented, active or passive, cognitive, emotional, behavioral, as well as constructive or destructive. The success of overcoming loneliness depends on the young people's choice of an adequate coping strategy when faced with difficult circumstances and problems.
