Abstract

Purpose: Considering the historical processes, it is understood that cataloging has a changing and developing structure. These changes and development processes have brought with them new information and changes regarding the cataloging rules. With these changes, new ones were added, removed or new regulations were made on each previous rule. Such a change and development process necessitates good training of information professionals who do the cataloging business. Basically, the transition process to every new situation and event should be provided with education. The aim of this study is to examine the training studies on cataloging in the information and records management departments in our country and to reveal how the cataloging education should be. Method: The research was created as a result of scanning scientific publications related to cataloging education and examining the web pages of information and document management departments in Türkiye. Scientific publications obtained from the searches made with the terms "cataloging" and "cataloging education" were used. In the study, "documentary scanning method" and "description method" were used. Findings; When the information and records management departments are evaluated in terms of the number of cataloging courses, it has been determined that there is an inequality between the departments. It has been determined that there are not enough faculty members trained in the field of cataloging in the departments. It is seen in the tables that Ankara University and Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University are more prominent in the field of cataloging and classification. Conclusion: Our colleagues who graduated from information and documents departments do not have the same knowledge with each other due to the differences in the programs. Cataloging and classification lessons are given in different contents in some departments. In some departments, courses cannot be given due to the lack of teachers. Originality: This study; It is unique in terms of determining the cataloging trainings in the information and document management departments in our country, the doctoral subjects of the lecturers giving the courses, their publications on the subject, and the necessity of giving the cataloging training.
