Abstract
Theatrical venues serve as prominent hubs for the exhibition of cinemas. Historically, these movie theatres played a crucial role in temporarily subverting the prevailing puritanical norms associated with caste, effectively carving out spaces conducive to democratic engagement. However, a noteworthy shift has transpired with the advent of multiplexes, occurring contemporaneously with the declining capacity of traditional cinemas to satiate the appetites of an audience increasingly fixated on digital media. Since the year 2005, there has been a proliferation of multiplex chains, mirroring the film industry's transition toward digital film production. These multiplexes offer an enticing viewing experience replete with amenities such as reclining seating, a cutting-edge 64-channel Atmos sound system, dual projectors, and state-of-the-art silver screens. Nevertheless, contemporary viewership patterns have undergone a transformation, with audiences increasingly gravitating towards the compact screens of mobile phones and laptops. This paper undertakes an examination of the evolving paradigms in film exhibition across theatres, multiplexes, mobile devices, and laptops over time.
