Abstract
This paper analyzes the current situation of the effectiveness of teachers' directives in Yuanjiang No.1 Senior High School by means of questionnaires and classroom observations, and makes some suggestions to give effective directives. It is hoped that the research results can provide some teaching insights for teachers. It is found that teachers often use single and direct directives in the classroom, which is not conducive to language input. In the choice of strategies, teachers tend to focus on translation and other strategies like demonstration are used infrequently. In addition, personal factors like teacher's volume and speaking speed also affect students' understanding. The result of the study suggests that teachers should enrich the forms of directives and select directive strategies according to the teaching situation appropriately, so as to promote students' understanding and improve the classroom efficiency.
