Abstract

At the moment, there is a huge problem associated with the treatment of such central nervous system diseases as neurodegenerative ones, in particular Alzheimer's disease, which is one of the most common causes of dementia in old age. Currently, for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, symptomatic treatment is used, in which 2 classes of drugs are available: the non-competitive NMDA receptor antagonist memantine, which normalizes dysfunctional glutamatergic neurotransmission and acetylcholinesterase inhibitors, such as donepezil, galantamine and rivastigmine, which increase the concentration of ACh in the synapse, thereby thereby improving neurotransmission.
