Abstract
The purpose of the article is to trace the place and role of archeographic and source studies and documentary publications of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh) in the formation of the national vision of the history of Ukraine by M. Hrushevsky. To determine why the Archeographic Commission (AC, 1896–1913) of the NTSh should be considered as a new stage in the development of the documentary aspect of Ukrainian historiography, its fundamental difference from the concept and structure of archival publications of the Kyiv Archeographic Commission, which combined great-power Russian and Ukrainian national discourses. To single out the key problems of the source publications of the Archeographic Commission of Shevchenko Scientific Society, which were determined and directed by M. Hrushevsky. The research methodology is based on the application of the principles of the integrity of the study of historical sources and objectivity. Comparative-historical, typological, descriptive, anthropological, biographical, and psychoanalytical methods were used, which made it possible to create an idea of the scientific, public, and cultural significance of the activities of the Archeographic Commission of Shevchenko Scientific Society under the leadership of M. Hrushevsky. Scientific novelty. Until now, there was an opinion that the Archeographic Commission of Shevchenko Scientific Society was, in all dimensions, only a continuation of the conceptual scientific principles of the Kyiv Archeographic Commission (Temporary Commission for the Analysis of Ancient Acts under the Kyiv, Podilsk, and Volyn Governor-General, 1843–1921). The article claims that the activity of the Archeographic Commission of Shevchenko Scientific Society was built on fundamentally different foundations, a new historiosophical vision of the history of Ukraine, which determined the general concept of M. Hrushevsky's documentary publications. Conclusions. Archeographic activity of the Shevchenko Scientific Society was based on scientific principles and the new national scheme of Ukrainian history by M. Hrushevsky. Archeographic Commission of Shevchenko Scientific Society became a forge not only of scientists as cadres, but also of their national civic position, thanks to which they took an active part in social and political life before the revolution and during the days of liberation struggles.
