Abstract

Aim of this study was to use cytochemical approach for measuring the activity of acid and alkaline phosphatase in gingival capillary blood and blood of tail vein of the laboratory rats with chemically induced osteoporosis of skeletal bones and parodontitis without and after animal treatment with a series of the osteotropic agents. Material and Methods. 35 female rats used in the study were divided into 7 groups among which 6 groups contained animals with chemically induced osteoporosis and parodontitis. Pharmacological correction was applied in 4 groups treated with "Osteogenon", "Vitrum® Osteomag", "Bivalos"® and "Teraflex®" medications. After 1 and 2 months of such treatment, gingival capillary blood and blood of tail vein were obtained and used for measurement of the enzymatic activity of acid phosphatase in leukocytes and alkaline phosphatase in neutrophils. Results and Discussion. Among 4 used medications ("Osteogenon", "Vitrum® Osteomag", "Bivalos®" and "Teraflex®") it was only one ("Teraflex®") whose application for 2 months led to statistically significant normalization of the activity of acid and alkaline phosphatases in the gingival capillary blood compared to the increased level of activity of these enzymes in blood of animals with the induced osteoporosis process. "Teraflex®" also demonstrated marked anti-inflammatory and parodontoprotecting effects in the treated animals. Conclusion. The osteotropic agent "Teraflex®" is the most effective in treatment of the induced parodontitis on the background of the osteoporotic changes in the skeleton. The activities of acid and alkaline phosphatases in the gingival capillary blood are convenient biochemical indicators which can be used for optimization of the applied therapeutic tactics during treatment of such pathology.
