Abstract
Theoretical approaches to the definition of emotional intelligence were substantiated. It is shown that in modern research, there are two models of emotional intelligence: 1) capacity model, which presents the idea of the intersection of cognition and emotion; 2) mixed model (a combination of intellectual, emotional, and personality traits). The key characteristics of emotional intelligence include the ability to manage emotions, the ability to self-regulate emotional states, emotional awareness and empathy. It is proved that emotional intelligence plays a prominent role in the development of personality of psychologist.
