Abstract
This article aims to explore the effectiveness of using songs as a teaching method for enhancing listening skills among beginners. Listening, a fundamental language skill in English, falls into the category of receptive skills, alongside reading. Music and songs play a crucial role in beginners' development and learning. Incorporating songs into language classrooms offers numerous advantages, although there are both positive and negative aspects to using music in foreign language instruction. Students can enhance their listening abilities through song-based learning activities, particularly during listening lessons. English songs have the potential to motivate student engagement, making them enjoyable and effective for completing listening assignments. However, there are challenges associated with using songs in the listening process, such as the lack of scientific accuracy in pop songs and potential issues with school sound systems.
