Interactive Maps as a Form of Presentation of Archive Sources: Experience of the CSSTA of Ukraine

The purpose of the article is to generalize the work experience of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archives of Ukraine on interactive map projects. The main attention is focused on the typology of such projects, features of their development, problems and perspectives of use. Research methodology. The work has a complex interdisciplinary nature, since along with the use of an arsenal of methodological tools characteristic of historical sciences, the specifics of geographical and computer sciences must be taken into account. In particular, the authors studied the problem through the prism of historical-thematic and historical-chronological approaches, archival heuristics, concepts of analysis, systematization and classification of interactive maps. Special methods of historical and geographical informatics, geo-information systems and cartography are used. Scientific novelty. In the article, for the first time in Ukrainian historiography, the problem of the specifics of creating and using interactive maps in archival institutions is highlighted. Prospects for further research. The filling of the interactive map «Object-geographical catalog of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archives of Ukraine» remains an open project, in particular, in 2024, the Central State Scientific and Technical Archives of Ukraine also plans to approve and popularize the intermediate results of other interactive map projects. Conclusions. Interactive maps «Object-geographical catalog of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archives of Ukraine», concepts «Traveling through the cities of Ukraine» and «Traveling the world», «Architectural heritage of architect Oleksiy Beketov of the CSSTA of Ukraine», etc. – are initiative experimental projects of our institution. The comprehensive experience of the work of the Central State Scientific and Technical Archives of Ukraine in the field of interactive mapping is unique not only for the institutions of the Ukrainian archival industry. The main prospective result of the introduction of interactive maps is to enable users to independently carry out targeted thematic discovery of archival documents and order their copies remotely.
