Abstract
The purpose of the article is to expand the source base and enrich diaspora studies with little-known aspects of the life of the Ukrainian community in the United Kingdom by introducing video documents from the collection of the Ukrainian Video-Archives Society (UVAS) into academic circulation. The research methodology is based upon the principles of historicism, systematization, and objectivity, using special historical methods: the descriptive method for a general characterization of the video document collections; problem-chronological, historical-genetic, and statistical methods for reconstructing the history of the collection's formation, storage, and access, as well as determining its quantitative parameters. Methods of historical source studies, including heuristics, external and internal source criticism were applied during the study of the UVAS documentary collection. The scientific novelty lies in the introduction of the discovered UVAS video documents into academic circulation and acquainting domestic researchers with the possibilities of remote access to these documents. Conclusions. From its inception, UVAS aimed to film the life of the Ukrainian community in Bradford, which was in the process of establishing itself. As a result of many years of activity, the society has created a fairly large collection of video documents covering the period from 1970 to 2018. Today, this collection is stored in the OUN archive at the Ukrainian Information Service in London, where the video documents are being organized (they are organized into a separate «Ukrainian Video Archive Society in Bradford») (F. 33), digitized, and gradually made accessible through publication on the official UVAS channel on the YouTube platform.
