Abstract

The purpose of the article is to publish the original and translated into Ukrainian documents (diplomatic instructions, letters) of Hetman Mykhailo Khanenko, discovered in 2023–2024 during archeographic work of author in the archives of Krakow (Poland). The documents shed additional light on the situation on the territory of Right Bank Hetmanship during the Ruin era as well as on the foreign policy of Hetman M. Khanenko, primarily on his contacts with the leadership of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (King Michal-Korybut Vyshnevetsky, Crown Vice-Chancellor Andrzej Olshovsky, Full Crown Hetman Dmytro Vyshnevetsky), on the hetman aspirations to establish normal relations with the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The methodological basis of the research is the principles of historicism and objectivity; both general scientific and special historical methods were used, primarily historical-descriptive and historical-chronological. Scientific novelty. The article is based on archival documents from Polish archives. They are published for the first time in Ukrainian translation, thus becoming more accessible to Ukrainian scientists. In addition, the words and fragments of the originals were written in Latin. The current state of M. Khanenko's documentation is analyzed, the history of the introduction of letters into scientific circulation, starting from the 40-s of the 19th century, is traced, the original certificates of documents are indicated, primarily regarding the diplomatic struggle of the Right Bank Hetmanship, biographical data about M. Khanenko and his family; the cadences of some foremen are specified. Conclusions. Thanks to the documents published below, you can get a more complete picture of Polish-Ukrainian relations, the role of Khanenko in their establishment, at the same time, and the contradictions between the two hetmans: M. Khanenko and Petro Doroshenko. Research perspectives. In addition to shedding light on the diplomatic struggle of the Right-Bank Hetmanate, which it led at that time, the above documents allow future researchers to better determine the possible storage locations of M. Khanenko's documentation in Polish archives, and indicate the location of specific manuscripts. The documents presented here make it possible to significantly supplement the little-studied legacy of Khanenko, which is planned to be published in the series «Ukrainian Diplomatary of the 16th–18th centuries», which is a priority task of the Institute of Ukrainian Archeography and Source Studies named after M. S. Hrushevsky National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
