Abstract

The article examines ergonyms in the Uzbek language. The relevance of this work is due to the adoption of the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the State Language, aimed at preserving national identity. Particular attention is paid to the vocabulary of the language; for example, the attitude towards the formed onomastic units has changed, which is reflected in legislative acts. The aim of this article is to analyse the studies reflecting the formation of Uzbek ergonyms in the onomastic area. The material for the study consists of scientific articles by the scholars studying ergonyms in the modern Uzbek language. The main research method is descriptive. Our analysis of scientific articles has shown that Uzbek scholars express their concern about the insufficient study of ergonyms in Uzbekistan, primarily due to the lack of a generally accepted terminological framework in the field of ergonyms. Nevertheless, there are significant results that present a scientific interest: these are the studies concerned with word formation processes in ergonyms, their functions, borrowings, cultural codes influenced by the mentality of the Uzbek people. The description of cultural codes has enabled researchers to identify the national-cultural component, showing that centuries-old folk traditions and values, secular and religious worldviews are vividly manifested in Uzbek ergonyms. The preservation of these cultural codes in the people's conscious perception affects ergonyms.
