Abstract
Comparative evaluation of pollution status of river Ganga in the present and past has been assessed in the present study. Due to increased pollution in manifold, worship materials, untreated industrial effluents are being dumped in the holy river at many places and the water flow in the river has been interrupted through the construction of many dams, these are the main reasons of Ganga pollution. Constructive efforts from Government, industrialists, devotees and public contributions will be helpful for decreasing pollution in the holy river Ganga. Continuous flowing streams of water in Ganga might bring solution for pollution in it.
