Language Policy and China’s National Image in TASS Reports on Coronavirus: a Discursive Analysis

Abstract
The Communist Party of China claims that national language policy is an important basis for the development of national governance. As is known, since the end of 2019, the whole world has been seriously affected by the epidemics of the new coronavirus infection COVID-19. China, where the epidemics began, is still in the center of attention of the world community. The authors study the features of the representation of the national image of China and the national language policy in the context of the COVID-19 epidemics using the three-dimensional discourse analysis system of N. Fairclough. The information provided by TASS became the main source of this study. The content of this news agency contributes to the development of the strategy and tactics of creating the international image of the People’s Republic of China and promotes its adequate perception in the international political arena.
