Abstract
Social equality was the very breath of Basveswara's philosophy. He advocated equal status to all human beings and gave promise of salvation to every one who leads a virtuous life. He provided Virasaivism, a firm social base. He led the Bhakti movement which was a revolutionary and democratic for the emancipation of the down trodden. Saint Basaveswara strongly deprecated the idea of treating a fellow human being as an untouchable
