Abstract
The article is devoted to the linguistic analysis of EU — Ukraine relations, in particular from the lexicographic perspective. The aim of the study is to characterise the Glossary of the European Commission (hereinafter — EC), one of the EU institutions dealing with the Eastern Partnership policy. For this purpose, the author clarifies the issues of documents on Ukraine's European integration course, the subject matter of the Glossary as an index of terms to the EC documents, and substantiates the peculiarities of forming its register and dictionary entries. The theoretical basis of the analysis is provided by the provisions of computer lexicography on electronic reference books and approaches in translation studies to the reproduction of supranational EU terms in Ukrainian. The theoretical directions and analytical methods used allow us to characterise the Glossary in conjunction with the issues of EU texts about Ukraine and on the basis of the disclosure of the register of terms, dictionary entries, systemic links between the registered words, along with the meaning and structure of the units. The author analyses documents and explanatory publications from the EU websites thematically, which gives grounds to interpret the Glossary as a register of references to EU enlargement and its Eastern Partnership policy. The Glossary is an electronic thematic dictionary of an explanatory type with the additional feature of automatic translation of terms into Ukrainian. As a computer database, it combines dictionary entries and allows for a quick search for the meanings of supranational terms and their translation. The results obtained for the first time are relevant for the development of the theory of computer lexicography, terminology and sociolinguistics in the context of interlingual interaction.
