Human Resource Development Strategies and Employee Performance of Selected Deposit Money Banks in Ogun State, Nigeria

Abstract
Employee performance is vital for the success of deposit money banks, influencing productivity, customer satisfaction, and overall growth. In Ogun State, Nigeria, banks have introduced various initiatives, including training programs and performance evaluations, aimed at improving employee performance. However, these efforts have often been inadequate, as indicated by a decline in employee performance levels. This may be attributed to ineffective human resource development HRD strategies. Factors such as insufficient training, limited career advancement opportunities, and lack of motivational practices could be contributing to this issue. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the impact of HRD strategies on employee performance in selected deposit money banks in Ogun State, to identify shortcomings and develop more effective methods for cultivating a skilled, motivated, and high performing workforce. The study adopted survey research design. The population of study consist of 2,012 top, middle, and low level management of the five selected deposit money banks in Ogun State, Nigeria. A sample size of 418 was determined using researcher's advisors sampling table, and data was collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire with a Cronbach alpha value raged from 0.735 to 0.820. The data were analysed using both descriptive and inferential tools. A response rate of 99.8 was recorded. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine the effect of the variables using Statistical Package for Social Science SPSS version 27. The results from the study revealed that human resource development strategies had significant effect on employee performance of selected deposit money banks in Ogun State, Nigeria Adj.R2 = 0.323 F 3, 392 = 62.313 p 0.05 . The study concluded that human resource development strategies influenced employee performance of selected deposit money banks in Ogun State, Nigeria. The study recommended that management of deposit money banks should focus on designing and implementing effective human resource development programs to enhance employee performance. These programs should include career planning, career development opportunities, employee training and development.
