Abstract
The author refers to the creativity of the Syrland singer-storytellers which was not only forgotten but banned over a long period; there have been attempts to erase their names from the history and memory of the Kazakh people. The author believes that the work of poets of zhyrau is a source of national ideology of the Kazakh state and a reflection of the cultural, spiritual consciousness of the Kazakh people. The article touches upon the problems of righteousness and patriotism in the works of storytellers. It examines how these problems are revealed and resolved in the work of poet-storytellers such as Turmagambet Iztleuly, Karasakal Erimbet and others.
