Abstract
In this study, the primary phytochemical and biological screening of the aerial parts of Trichodesma ehrenbergii Schweinf. e x Boiss. (Family; Boraginaceae) has been done. Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, steroids, tannins, saponins, and sugars in different extracts of the aerial parts of T. ehr e nbergii . The concentration of phenols, flavonoids, alkaloids and tannins and saponins were found in the range 138 ±0.8 mg/g (as gallic acid equ ivalent), 123 ±0.6 mg/g (as rutin equivalent), 1.3 ±0.6 mg/g, 2.7 ±0.2 mg/g and 6.7 ±0.2 mg/g, respectively. Combined and free amino acids analysis showed the presence of 17 amino acids as free and protein amino acids. Glutamic acid (29.919ppm) and lysine (72.640 ppm) represented as the major components of free and protein amino acids, respectively. The antimicrobial activity of methanol extract of the aerial parts of T. ehrenbergii against 6 bacterial strains and 5 fungal strains by a pour plate technique method wa s determined.
