Abstract
Reading, beginning and evolving with its entrance of human life, has been one of the ways of reaching the information. Even though the style and the way reading is presented changed in the 21st century, also called “Information Era”, the primary road to reach the information is has not changed. Hence, the reading skill has been given much more place in language education than any other language skills. The reading skill stands out with the rate of 30% among all language skills in Turkish Language Teaching Program. In our day, the main target of academic studies is to make reading comprehension activities in the lessons more productive in line with the importance of reading. The related studies have been investigating the benefits and efficacy of the current methods and techniques, and new approaches have been emerging time to time. Cognitive strategies, which became popular recently in researches, are one of these new approaches. This study includes general explanations about cognitive strategies and examples of Turkish lesson applications prepared according to the cognitive strategies.
