LANDESKUNDLICHE ELEMENTE IN DEN LEHRWERKEN “MENSCHEN A1-A2”

Abstract
In this work, it’s been studied whether information related to the country of target culture was transferred or not and what the items transferred were in the coursebooks named “Menschen A1 und Menschen A2”. Initially, the place of coursebooks in foreign language teaching was mentioned and it was emphasized to be careful about selecting subjects. In this context, it was pointed out that country information subject should be included in the coursebooks. After mentioning “Country Information” definitions, brief information on the studies about the place of country information in the coursebooks were provided. Then, structure of the coursebooks named Menschen A1/A2 was examined and analyzed. As part of this study, country information subject was examined under five titles. It was determined from the data obtained that items about the country information were frequently included in the stated books. While it was observed that less was included about general country information features, information about particular domain and cultural information about German speaking countries, it was determined that cultural features about daily life were included more and no information about literal works was found. Based on this information, in teaching German language, it can be said that the transfer of cultural items was sufficient in the coursebooks Menschen A1/A2. If more exemplifications were made for the other four titles except from the country information related to daily life and some information about the literal works, which there is no information about, was added, these books would be much better about the country information. So, deficiencies in the content of country information would be resolved.
