Abstract
Language is an important tool for the socialization of the individual as it enables communication between people. Learning a second language doesn’t mean to learn that language with only grammar rules or with words. Learning a foreign language is to solve the cultural codes of the nation that the language belongs to, to bring awareness to the cultural treasures, to know the cultural treasures in detail and to mean it in a context of integrating with the basic rules of language. Tangible and intangible cultural elements that a nation has find their place in the language. These elements that are enshrined in the language are transmitted through language. In this respect, cultural transmission constitutes an important point in language teaching. In transmitting cultural codes of the source language in foreign language teaching, texts assumes an important task. Initially, including textbooks, the texts in these books are in the position of the main transmitters of culture and learning. Istanbul Teaching Set of Turkish for Foreigners, as a course material prepared for the teaching Turkish as a foreign language, is of significance in the transmission of Turkish culture. Thus, The texts in C-1 Grade of Istanbul Teaching Set of Turkish for Foreigners, which has been prepared for the advanced students who learn Turkish as a foreign language, have been analyzed with document review method in terms of cultural transmission. As a result of the data obtained from this study, the cultural transmission in textbooks especially prepared for advanced level students in teaching Turkish to foreigners is emphasized and recommendations on the subject has been developed.
