Abstract
Interpretation of image contents is one of the main objectives in computer vision. The purpose of Image segmentation is to partition an image into meaningful regions with respect to a particular application. Image segmentation is a method of separating the image from the background and read the contents. Edge is a basic and important feature of an image. Image is a combination of edges. Detecting edges is one of the most important aspects in image segmentation. Edge detection is a vital step as it is a process of identifying and locating sharp discontinuities in an image. In this paper through study has been done on most commonly used edge detection techniques such as Sobel, Prewitt, Roberts, Canny, Laplacian Guassian(LoG).
